Beyond Classrooms

Our Learning Environments

Pando is small on purpose. We want every single family, employee, and student to feel like they are part of a supportive learning community, working together to be caring, creative, and inquisitive. Our physical environment is foundational to achieving this aim. Rather than focus our curriculum around learning centers in siloed classrooms, we have reimagined every nook and cranny in our entire school as a potential learning environment.

9 Dynamic Spaces for Inquiry and Play

Poppy Room

Our youngest students begin their Pando journey in the Poppy Room. Teachers ensure children have ample opportunity to play, explore, nurture relationships, and master self-help skills.

Sunflower Room

Our older students dive deep into an emergent, inquiry-led curriculum. Teachers support children’s budding sense of civic duty and community-mindedness.

Atelier

An aesthetically inspired space that creates opportunities for children to explore novel materials and develop an artistic practice.

Garden

An outdoor studio where art, nature, play, and observation are woven together.

Kitchen

Food, culture, and health all go hand-in-hand. Our kitchen serves a site for adults to prepare our two daily snacks in collaboration with interested students. This flexible space sometimes showcases our garden’s tomato crop, and other times serves as cozy spot for a cup of tea on a cold winter morning. See what’s cooking.

Backyard

Run, jump, hide, build. Let loose, hunker down. Take a risk. Lay back and watch the clouds float by. Our backyard is home to a climber, comfy turf, sand box, and ample loose parts. It’s also the stage on which some children’s best play unfolds.

Frontyard

Mud pit, play house, bikes and scooters.

Coop

Our chickens enrich our community by producing eggs, turning our compost, and offering the occasional feathery snuggle. Cluck.

The Office

Everyone at Pando is a learner - especially the adults. Our office is where we spitball the culture and systems that make Pando possible. Learn about our school’s organizational structure and business model here.

Our neighborhood

We’re proud to call Fringecrest our home. Nestled between the base and Nob Hill, our location grants us easy access to many community resources.
